NEWSELA LOGIN
Every student must have a Newsela account. You can find the class code to sign up for your account below. Please make sure you copy the code that corresponds to your/your student's class color. You can also find a quick-start guide below with step-by-step instructions on setting up an account.
Typically, students will be assigned 2-3 readings per week to complete. Students will have time in class on Wednesdays to complete these readings and question sets. All articles must be submitted by midnight the following Tuesday. Absence is not an excuse for not completing assignments. Students are still expected to complete Newsela assignments each week. If your student does not have access to the internet, there are opportunities before and after school for him or her to complete this assignment. Please encourage your student to contact me to take advantage of time before or after school.

SSR RESPONSE SHEETS (CELL PHONE SHEETS)
Each day, after SSR time, students complete a response (at least 3 good sentences) to what they read on their "Cell Phone Sheet". Students are to use the guided reading sentence starters to begin their responses. Students are expected to cite evidence from their reading in their response.
BOOK OF THE MONTH (ONE PAGER)
Each month, students are expected to read 200 pages during SSR time in class (and outside of class, if necessary), and complete a one page response to their reading.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
Article of the Week is a non-fiction article that goes home each Friday and is to be completed and returned by the following Thursday. Students are expected to complete all directions, answer all questions, and annotate the AOW.
